For a Lost Soldier (1992)
Voor Een Verloren Soldaat (original title)
A romantic relationship between an adult and a child.
A narrative about a child and an adult who fall in love. The movie, which is a flashback of Jeroen’s teenage relationship with a Canadian soldier, is set in the Netherlands near the end of World War II. A challenging subject is handled elegantly and sympathetically.
The subject of this movie was treated honestly.
It demonstrated how some boys never forget their first experience of “love,” while other boys move on. In the movie, the boy carried it with him throughout his entire life and never forgot it. Walt, the object of the young boy’s feelings in the film, was seen by many people as some sort of pedo.
As the boy, Jerome, later admits in the book he wrote many years later and on which the movie is based, he never supported the relationship. This movie had all the appropriate feelings for the occasion in 1945. Meeting the boy going through puberty while the soldier is away from home in a foreign country. A beautiful film with excellent acting and direction.
